Basic Airborne (Static Line)
The Basic Airborne (Static Line) certification is an advanced qualification available to operators within MSOT 8213 – Task Force Raven. This certification represents successful completion of static-line parachutist training, enabling insertion by low-altitude parachute operations.
It is modeled after the U.S. Army Airborne School and is a prerequisite for more advanced parachute training such as Military Free-Fall (HALO/HAHO).
Responsibilities
- Safely execute static-line parachute jumps during operations.
- Maintain proficiency in parachute landing falls (PLFs).
- Assemble with the MSOT after airborne insertion.
- Ensure accountability of combat equipment during jumps.
- Advise team members on airborne procedures when serving as a qualified jumper.
Training Required
- Must be a Critical Skills Operator (CSO) in good standing.
- Completion of ITC.
- Completion of the Basic Airborne Training Course (simulated in Arma 3).
Skills & Capabilities
- Proficiency in static-line parachute exits and canopy control.
- Ability to conduct night and day airborne operations.
- Competence in parachute landing falls (PLFs).
- Familiarity with airborne assembly and rally procedures.
Equipment
- Static-line parachute system.
- Reserve parachute.
- Combat load rigged for airborne insertion (weapon, ruck, gear).
- Night assembly aids (chemlights, IR strobes, panels) when required.
Training Course
Module 1 – Ground Week
- Aircraft exit procedures (door and ramp).
- Parachute Landing Fall (PLF) techniques.
- Equipment rigging and inspection.
Module 2 – Tower Week
- Mock door training drills.
- Suspended harness procedures.
- Practice jumps from towers or scripted training environments.
Module 3 – Jump Week
- Five static-line jumps from 400–1000 ft AGL (simulated).
- Jumps include: day combat equipment jump, night jump, and full combat load jump.
Graduation Criteria
- Successfully completes five static-line parachute jumps.
- Demonstrates canopy control and PLF techniques.
- Maintains equipment accountability during airborne operations.
Advancement
After completing Basic Airborne, operators may advance to:
- Military Free-Fall (HALO/HAHO) certification.
- Reconnaissance-focused airborne roles (if assigned).
- Instructor/training cadre for airborne refresher courses.
Summary
The Basic Airborne (Static Line) certification provides Task Force Raven with the ability to conduct low-altitude parachute insertions. It serves as the foundation for advanced parachutist qualifications such as Military Free-Fall (HALO/HAHO).
