The Mobility / Vehicle Operator is a specialized billet within MSOT 8213 – Task Force Raven. Mobility operators are responsible for maintaining and operating the team’s ground mobility assets, ensuring that the MSOT can move rapidly, safely, and effectively to accomplish its mission.

They provide convoy discipline, vehicle recovery capability, and mission planning support for mounted operations.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary operator and maintainer of assigned vehicles.
  • Conduct pre-mission inspections and ensure vehicles are mission-ready.
  • Execute convoy operations, including spacing, comms, and formation discipline.
  • Support logistics and sustainment by transporting personnel and equipment.
  • Conduct vehicle recovery operations in the field.
  • Train CSOs in basic convoy procedures and vehicle handling.

Training Required

  • Successful completion of ITC
  • Completion of the Mobility Training Course
  • Familiarity with:
    • Convoy formations and spacing
    • Vehicle comms procedures (ACRE2 integration)
    • Route planning and navigation
    • Recovery procedures (tow ropes, winching if mod supported)

Skills & Capabilities

  • Proficiency in operating GMVs, MRZRs, or mission-specific mobility platforms.
  • Ability to maintain convoy spacing and discipline under fire.
  • Competence with vehicle-mounted weapons systems (if assigned).
  • Familiarity with mounted navigation and route execution.
  • Capability to recover damaged or disabled vehicles.
  • Knowledge of logistics resupply procedures.

Equipment

The Mobility/Vehicle Operator carries standard CSO equipment and is additionally responsible for:

  • Assigned vehicle (GMV, MRZR, or equivalent).
  • Vehicle tool kit for field recovery.
  • Spare tires, fuel, and basic maintenance items (mission-dependent).
  • Convoy-specific comms gear and navigation aids.

Training Course

Module 1 – Mobility Fundamentals

  • Overview of MSOT mobility platforms
  • Pre-mission inspections and readiness checks
  • Vehicle crew drills (driver, gunner, commander roles)

Module 2 – Convoy Operations

  • Convoy formations and spacing
  • Comms procedures with ACRE2
  • React to contact while mounted (halt, push through, dismount drills)

Module 3 – Recovery Operations

  • Use of tow ropes, winches, and recovery vehicles (if available)
  • Field expedient recovery techniques
  • Security procedures during vehicle recovery

Module 4 – Integrated Mobility Exercise

  • Conducting a full convoy operation with MSOT
  • Coordinating mounted and dismounted elements
  • Executing recovery during a simulated mission

Graduation Criteria

  • Conducts proper pre-mission inspection
  • Maintains convoy discipline during scenario
  • Demonstrates vehicle recovery procedures under field conditions

Advancement

Mobility/Vehicle Operators may advance to:

  • Senior mobility advisor roles within the MSOT
  • Training cadre for future mobility courses
  • Integration with logistics or sustainment planning
