SERE-C (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape)

The SERE-C certification is an advanced qualification available to operators within MSOT 8213 – Task Force Raven. This certification prepares operators to survive in austere environments, evade capture, resist exploitation if captured, and escape captivity.

It is modeled after the U.S. military’s Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape – Level C course, which is required for SOCOM personnel who may operate behind enemy lines.

Responsibilities

Survive in hostile environments with minimal resources.
Evade enemy forces during escape and evasion scenarios.
Resist interrogation, exploitation, and propaganda if captured.
Escape captivity and rejoin friendly forces when possible.
Advise the team on survival and evasion planning during operations.

Training Required

Must be a Critical Skills Operator (CSO) in good standing. .
Completion of the SERE-C Training Course.

Skills & Capabilities

Survival skills (food/water procurement, shelter building, fire starting).
Evasion techniques (stealth movement, camouflage, terrain usage).
Resistance techniques (coping with interrogation and captivity).
Escape techniques (breaking restraints, lock picking, signaling for rescue).
Familiarity with signaling methods (panels, IR strobes, radio comms).

Equipment

Individual survival kit (knife, fire starter, water purification).
Emergency signaling devices (mirror, panel, IR strobe).
Map, compass, and escape tools (as issued in training scenarios).
Improvised survival tools as needed.

Training Course

Module 1 – Survival

Water procurement and purification.
Food procurement and foraging.
Shelter construction in field conditions.

Module 2 – Evasion

Camouflage and concealment techniques.
Stealth movement in rural and urban terrain.
Avoidance of patrols and tracking forces.

Module 3 – Resistance

Techniques for enduring captivity.
Psychological resilience and coping strategies.
Resisting interrogation and exploitation.

Module 4 – Escape

Restraint breaking (cord, cuffs, bindings).
Improvised lock picking and field escape tools.
Signaling friendly forces for recovery.

Graduation Criteria

Demonstrates ability to survive in field scenario for extended duration.
Successfully evades opposing forces in simulated evasion lane.
Demonstrates resistance and escape skills under controlled conditions.

Advancement

After earning SERE-C certification, operators may advance to:

Instructor cadre for survival and evasion training.
Specialized reconnaissance and deep infiltration roles.
Advisor for mission survival planning.
