Critical Skills Operator (CSO)
The Critical Skills Operator (CSO) is the foundational billet within MSOT 8213 – Task Force Raven. Every member of the unit graduates ITC as a CSO before pursuing additional specialized billets.
CSOs are multi-role operators capable of adapting to any mission profile, from direct action raids to reconnaissance and sustainment operations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the backbone of the MSOT.
- Execute all assigned tasks within the fireteam or element.
- Maintain proficiency in weapons, communications, and small-unit tactics.
- Support leadership in achieving mission objectives.
- Uphold discipline, professionalism, and unit standards.
Training Required
- Successful completion of Selection Process
- Graduation from ITC
- Ongoing participation in Sustainment Training
- Familiarity with unit SOPs and TTPs
Skills & Capabilities
- Proficiency with unit-standard small arms and equipment.
- Basic communications with PRC-152/117 and proper reporting formats.
- Medical proficiency at the TCCC basic level.
- Tactical movement, patrolling, and contact drills.
- CQB fundamentals and breaching participation.
- Land navigation and map reading.
Equipment
CSOs draw from the unit-approved arsenal and are expected to maintain readiness with:
- Primary and secondary weapons as assigned from the arsenal.
- PRC-152 handheld radio.
- Standard combat load of ammunition and grenades.
- TCCC basic medical kit.
- Mission-specific gear as required.
Advancement
After time in service and proven performance, CSOs may volunteer for specialized billets, including:
- Radio Operator (RO)
- SARC (Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman)
- Breacher
- Designated Marksman (DM)
- JTAC
- Sniper/Recce
- Mobility/Vehicle Operator
Summary
The CSO is the heart of the MSOT. Every member is trained as a well-rounded Raider first and foremost, ensuring that the team can accomplish any mission, anywhere.
