The Team Leader is the commanding officer of MSOT 8213 – Task Force Raven. The Team Leader holds overall responsibility for the team, including planning, execution, and mission success. This billet is modeled after the role of a MARSOC Raider Officer assigned as an MSOT commander.


Responsibilities

  • Exercise overall command and control of the MSOT.
  • Lead mission planning and execution.
  • Supervise all subordinate billets and ensure proper integration.
  • Coordinate with higher headquarters and supporting elements.
  • Ensure discipline, readiness, and welfare of the team.
  • Serve as the primary decision-maker during operations.

Training Required

  • Must be a Critical Skills Operator (CSO) in good standing.
  • Prior leadership experience as an Element Leader is highly recommended.
  • Advanced certifications are a positive.
  • Familiarity with mission planning tools, orders process, and leadership doctrine.

Skills & Capabilities

  • Strong leadership and decision-making ability under pressure.
  • Proficiency in mission planning and briefing formats.
  • Knowledge of all billets within the MSOT and their integration.
  • Effective use of communications to coordinate with higher and adjacent units.
  • Ability to manage both tactical and administrative responsibilities.

Equipment

  • Standard CSO combat loadout.
  • Additional mission planning materials (map, notepad, GPS).
  • ACRE2 radio for long-range communications with higher HQ.
  • Team-specific communications gear as required.

Training Course

Module 1 – Leadership & Command

  • Principles of small-unit leadership.
  • Leadership under fire.
  • Decision-making in uncertain environments.

Module 2 – Mission Planning

  • Planning cycle and orders process.
  • Coordination with supporting assets (fires, mobility, logistics).
  • Rehearsals and contingencies.

Module 3 – Operational Control

  • Command and control during missions.
  • Delegation of authority to Element Leaders.
  • Maintaining situational awareness and updating higher HQ.

Module 4 – Team Integration

  • Building cohesion across billets.
  • Conducting after-action reviews (AARs).
  • Ensuring training readiness of the MSOT.

Graduation Criteria

  • Successfully plans and briefs a full MSOT operation.
  • Demonstrates effective command and decision-making in a field scenario.
  • Conducts AARs and integrates lessons learned into future planning.

Advancement

After serving as Team Leader, operators may advance to:

  • Higher command billets within Task Force Raven.
  • Instructor cadre for future Team Leaders.
  • Staff officer roles at higher echelons.
