Element Leader

The Element Leader is a leadership billet within MSOT 8213 – Task Force Raven. The Element Leader is responsible for leading one of the MSOT’s elements in combat operations, directly commanding operators at the tactical level. This billet is modeled after the leadership role assigned to experienced Raiders who are entrusted with managing half of the MSOT during missions.

Responsibilities

Command and control of an MSOT element during operations.
Execute mission orders issued by the Team Leader and Team Chief.
Supervise and mentor operators within the element.
Ensure readiness, accountability, and discipline of element members.
Integrate specialized billets (RO, Breacher, DM, etc.) into the element.
Report status and provide recommendations to the Team Leader during missions.

Training Required

Must be a Critical Skills Operator (CSO) in good standing.
Demonstrated proficiency in tactical leadership roles.
Advanced certifications are a positive.
Familiarity with orders process, reporting formats, and team-level mission planning.

Skills & Capabilities

Strong small-unit leadership and decision-making ability.
Competence in fireteam and element-level tactics.
Ability to integrate specialized billets into tactical maneuvers.
Proficiency in communications and reporting during combat.
Skill in mentoring and developing junior operators.

Equipment

Standard CSO combat loadout.
ACRE2 radio for element-level command and control.
Maps and tools for reporting and navigation.
Additional equipment as required for mission leadership.

Training Course

Module 1 – Leadership Fundamentals

Leading small units under stress.
Troop-leading procedures (TLPs).
Delegation and decision-making.

Module 2 – Element Tactics

Fire and maneuver at the element level.
Coordinating with other elements of the MSOT.
Integration of specialized billets (Breacher, RO, DM).

Module 3 – Mission Execution

Receiving and executing orders from the Team Leader.
Maintaining comms and reporting status.
Adjusting tactics during live scenarios.

Module 4 – Mentorship & Accountability

Supervising and developing junior CSOs.
Enforcing standards within the element.
Maintaining accountability of personnel and equipment.

Graduation Criteria

Successfully commands an element during a mission scenario.
Demonstrates effective use of specialized billets within the element.
Provides accurate reports and recommendations to higher leadership.

Advancement

After serving as Element Leader, operators may advance to:

Team Chief (senior enlisted leader of the MSOT).
Team Leader (commander of the MSOT).
Instructor cadre for leadership development courses.
